ANIMALS TO ADOPT
Requirements to Adopt:
To adopt an animal from Oakland Animal Services, you must:
| • | Be 18 years of age or older with a valid California driver’s license or other acceptable identification; |
| • | Visit with the dog or cat or rabbit you plan to adopt. Adopters should bring all the human members of their household to meet their new companion. Please do not bring any of your other pets unless you have arranged this ahead of time. You can make an appointment with our dog coordinator at 510-535-4883, to introduce your dog(s) to a dog that you are interested in adopting. And, in the case of rabbits, talk with one of our rabbit volunteers to help with “bunny bonding” if you would like to find a playmate for your current rabbit; |
| • | For dogs, you must show proof of home ownership or permission to have a dog from your landlord; |
| • | Successfully complete the Adoption Questionnaire: Dog Questionnaire, Cat Questionnaire, Rabbit Questionnaire); |
| • | Never have had any cruelty convictions, animal control violations or broken any adoption contracts in the past; |
| • | Pay the adoption fees by cash or credit card. We do not accept personal checks. |
| • | Pay the adoption fee the same day as the adoption. We do not place any holds on any animals; |
| • | Agree to a home inspection if the dog is a pitbull or rottweiler or any other large breed dog or dog that that has been identified to need additional attention; |
| • | If you are adopting a dog, you should know these laws and regulations: Dogs in Oakland ; |
| • | Pick up your new animals at the East Bay SPCA Clinic or Noble Veterinary Clinic if the animal has not been spayed/neutered already. |
| • | Agree to and sign the “Statement of Buyer” (see below). |
Statement of Buyer
I (we) hereby acknowledge receipt from you of the animal ______________________ (animal control number). I (we) understand that the Oakland Animal Services makes NO WARRANTY in regard to the animal’s ownership, condition, disposition, past behavior and health and that you can only give such information as noted on the reverse side of this form. I (we) agree that the City of Oakland and/or its officers and/or employees shall not be liable, answerable, or accountable in any manner for the injury to any person or damage to property or loss of use thereof caused by said officers and employees, from any suits, claims, or actions brought by any person or persons for or on account of any bodily injuries, disease, illness or damage caused by said animal.
